Women's gymnastics hosts Utah State in first home meet

The BYU women's gymnastics team hosts Utah State Saturday in BYU's first home meet of the 2013 season.

The Cougars had one opportunity to showcase this year's talent before they compete against their in-state rival. BYU scored a 194.475 in the Cancun Gymnastics Classic, topping No. 9 Oregon State but falling behind No. 10 Michigan.

'We'd like to get into the 195s, and we think we are capable and pushing toward that,' BYU head coach Brad Cattermole said in a press release. 'To do it we need to stick all of our routines. If you do that the rest of it you can just let take care of itself.'

In the previous season, BYU beat Utah State 195.525–193.675; however, both teams add six new freshman to their rosters for this meet.

Utah State showcased talents in its annual December Blue & White Meet. The event allowed gymnasts to preview routines for the 2013 season, perfecting their skills in a low-pressure environment. The event was run as a regular style meet in past years. Saturday's match-up will be the first meet of the 2013 season for Utah State.

The meet starts at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the Smith Fieldhouse and will be televised on BYUtv.
