Women's Soccer Preview

The red hot women's soccer team is looking to continue their climb up the polls when they open West Coast Conference play tonight. Running on a three game shut-out streak, watch out for #6 BYU as they take on the #21 Broncos of Santa Clara. Having already beaten three ranked opponents so far this year, the Cougars are no stranger to the task at hand. Freshman Michele Murphy described just how important winning those games is for the team.

'That gives us huge momentum and a lot of confidence because we believe in ourselves. Not that we didn't before but it just gives us that extra edge,' said Murphy.

The Lady Cougars are on a nine game winning streak, with their only loss of the year coming against in-state rival Utah. That was a game of bitter-sweet memories for at least one teammate, Junior Cloee Colohan.

We've kind of moved on from that, you know. We're a different team from that game. It taught us a lot. A little humbling, losing to Utah, but I think it taught us a lot,' said Colohan.

Learning from that loss seems to be paying off, especially in front of the home fans. With attendance nearing 5,000 people every game, South Field now hosts some of the largest crowds in the nation.

'On the road it's harder because people are cheering against you. So, it's nice to be home at BYU in South Field. There's just something different about it. So, it's really nice and I like it a lot, ' said Murphy.

BYU is looking for their twelfth win tonight. If there's enough energy in the stands, they just might be able to find it. Head on over to South Field tonight at 6pm to witness a battle of ranked opponents.
