Marriott Center bench sale funds student athlete scholarships

BYU Athletic Department is selling the benches from the student section of the Marriott Center Friday; the benches were removed due to the recent renovations.

Bill Hoops, a marketing coordinator for BYU Athletics, said this is the first time the department has done a sale of this kind. The benches for sale are original to the Marriott Center from when it opened in 1971. All the proceeds from the sale will go to BYU Athletics to fund student athlete scholarships.

'Every dime we make goes to student athlete scholarships,' Hoops said.

The benches for sale are from the north side of the arena where they are being replaced with chair seating, making that side's lower bowl only chair seats. The student section was previously on the north side, however because of these changes, next season students will sit on the west side benches.

Due in part to the seating renovations, pricing for 2012-2013 basketball season tickets has been restructured, with about 75 percent of seats in the Marriott Center reduced in price according to BYU Athletics' website.

The benches are being sold in three lengths: five feet at $15, nine feet at $20 and 16 feet for $25. The benches do not come with a stand, just the bench alone. Cash or check preferred and the benches must be taken at the time of purchase.

The sale will take place inside gate five of LaVell Edwards Stadium from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Parking for the event is in the west lot of LaVell Edwards Stadium.
