Daniel Bobik is a good person

This editorial is about the basket ball game last Saturday, December 6.

I am writing this letter in behalf of my family in Stillwater. With much disappointment, I am pretty disturbed how fans behaved toward Daniel Bobik. Daniel is a good person and a very active member in our Stillwater second ward. He goes to the temple and serves as a member of the Elders quorum presidency. I attended a youth fireside a week ago that he and his wife presented and I can tell you that he has a strong testimony about our savior Jesus Christ. He transferred from BYU to OSU hoping to better his basketball career. He is doing really well and has made a big contribution to our ball club.

Turns out Daniel’s first season as a Cowboy he plays against his old team, expects a fun time, but receives nothing but boos and unprofessional comments from BYU fans. Every time Bobik handled the ball they booed him and made all kinds of comments. Not only is it disturbing because it’s bad but because it also came from members of the church. A non-member who watched the game on T.V. was shocked to find out how Mormons behave so unchristian. Many people across America look at Mormons as righteous and self-controlled people. But after Saturday’s game, they might have a different opinion of the Mormons. Daniel has a real missionary opportunity and has been exercising it not only to his fellow teammates and coaches but also to the Stillwater, Oklahoma community. You “BYU Fans” just destroyed it.

You just don’t realize the missionary implication Daniel has here in Stillwater. You can’t get mad at somebody for being happy where they are. Why did you treat him so badly even if you thought he wasn’t good enough for the BYU starting lineup?

After Saturday one of the OSU coaches asked Daniel why these people supposedly of the same faith were acting very rude and mean to him.

BYU fans should be happy for Daniel’s accomplishments. After all, he’s only trying to improve himself and his talents. That is what the church teaches us to do.

You might want to ask yourself why it didn’t work out at BYU and why he moved his family here to Oklahoma. Daniel has work to do here at StillWater. I hope and pray that we all can act as a true member of The Church for Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints.
