After 12 games two years ago I, and most other Cougar football fans, was calling Coach Crowton an offensive genius. But with Luke Staley's
broken leg the genius abruptly ended. There hasn't even been a hint of it since then. The fact remains that for the last two games of that 12 and 2 season and during these last two seasons the Cougar offense has been coached very poorly.
There is no way all the teams that have defeated BYU during this painful span have better talent. Performance on the field is ultimately the result of two things, recruiting and coaching. The recruiting has brought some pretty good talent to BYU.
The coaching has done very little with it. Unbelievable play-calling is becoming the norm. Roger Reid was allowed to destroy a once-proud BYU
basketball team. We became the worst division 1-A basketball team in the nation. This week ESPN has voted BYU the 5th worst football team in
division 1-A. Do we want to sit around and wait for the Cougars to be the undisputed worst football team in 1-A? We are headed there. If our worst fears do not come to a reality, it is easy to see the Cougars continue to be a total embarrassment to the legions of loyal fans. The
fans deserve better than this. The Cougar football players deserve better than this. The University deserves better than this. The proud
tradition set by Lavell Edwards deserves better than this.
At the end of this season, it will be the right time to fire Gary Crowton and end this misery. When he left BYU I never thought I would ever feel this way, but I think it is now time to finally give the head coaching job that was once promised to Norm Chow. However, there are a number of candidates who look much better than what we are getting. BYU, please do something !
