Knowing God

By Jennifer Bigler

Elder Jeffrey R. Holland said saints must know God in order to love him as they are commanded in the first commandment.

'God, in his ultimate effort for us to know him, sent his only begotten son to atone for our sins,' he said.

Elder Holland said the grand truth is that Christ''s atonement showed us what God is like. As Christ declared, 'this is God''s true compassion that I am showing you as well as my own.'

Elder Holland said the Son and the Father are one in the same.

Elder Holland declared the Book of Mormon as a perfect view of God as it repeatedly shows the mercy and love he has for all of his children of every nation and every age.

Elder Holland spoke of the sadness God feels when he sees the disobedience of his children. 'What anguish he feels when his children do not choose him,' he said.

'I testify in amidst the wonderful complex tasks of the universe, God seeks our personal well being above all other Godly task,' Elder Holland said. 'Our Heavenly Father is more liberal in his views and boundless in his love and blessings than we are ready to receive.'
