The Bubble: True blue through and through

By Bonnie Andrews

Football season is one of the best times of the year at BYU, and I am one of the 64,000 fans who flock to the LaVell Edwards Stadium to actively participate in home games.

I have a great time listening to the unsettled fans complain about the new stadium regulations, but even more entertaining to me are the wardrobes of so many different personalities. Most fans are unmistakably dressed for the occasion while others look ready to hit the clubs once the boys are done with the game.

You can tell by appearance people who come to the game as a tag-a-long for lack of anything else to do.

You can''t miss Joe Cool and the Diva who pay for a ticket for the largest 'scope fest', not to mention tight pants on the football players and above the knee skirts the cheerleaders wear.

Despite the slightly out of place pretenders, the majority of the stadium is filled with devout fans that are clearly dressed to attend a sporting event, and there is no mistaking a true blue super fan.

This is what I gathered from my experience.

A tag-a-long

* A casual outfit, sometimes a little dressy eager to catch someone''s eye.

* A cell phone in their lap hopeful someone will call and relieve them from their misery.

* A book or magazine to read until the 'dull, droning' game ends.

* Earplugs to drown out the annoying super fans screaming in their ear.

Joe Cool

* A t-shirt that fits like it came out of his little brothers closet.

* A trendy pair of Abercrombie blue jeans.

* The newest Diesel brand leather shoes, not to mention a matching belt.

* A cell phone permanently attached to the ear.

* He has got so much gel in his hair that the locks never move not even when the strongest wind tears through the stadium.

Diva

* Platforms or stiletto heels to hike the stands.

* A pair of pants that look two sizes too small.

* Make-up applied for a dance concert.

* Hair done for prom.

* Caution: Watch for rain!

Football Fan

* Rather reserved in appearance.

* Blue jeans or old cut-offs

* A clean shirt

* The classic BYU logo ball cap.

Super Fan

* The Smurf clan, covered from head to toe in blue and white. Paint even comes in handy for those hard to cover areas.

* The big #1 fan hand.

* A draped Jersey of their favorite player.

* A plastic football that was caught at the last game under the arm.

* Swinging a clamped fist cursing every call an official makes in favor of the opposing team.
