Osmond offspring keep the fire burning

By Tamara Friske

Martina McBride is not the only hot thing coming to the Stadium of Fire this year. The Osmonds - Second Generation is planning a fiery and explosive show for their performance on July 4.

Nathan Osmond said they are putting together a medley of well- known songs that have to do with 'fire and disco inferno' for the performance. They have also coordinated some explosive accents to their choreography with the people that did the Olympic fireworks.

'We''re really excited,' Nathan Osmond said. 'We''ve put together some great fun numbers that we hope will really add to the show.'

'The things that we''re doing is mostly geared around production -- it''s designed specifically for this show,' said David Osmond.

The Osmonds - Second Generation is composed of eight brothers: Michael, Nathan, Doug, David, Scott, Alex, Tyler and John, who is currently on his mission in Brazil.

David said they started singing when they were young. Their father, Alan Osmond, started teaching them music theory and barber-shop harmony. They later were able to appear on the Bob Hope Show and open for a New Kids on the Block concert.

'It was a great opportunity for us as kids to be able to see the world and perform music and make some money for our missions and college and stuff like that,' said David Osmond.

Ronald Clark, director of public affairs and guest relations at BYU and previous spokesperson for the original Osmonds, has known the Osmond offspring since the day they were born. He said they have always had a natural gift for music and composition.

'Their sound was extremely tight, they had the moves, and they had the ability to listen to one another,' Clark said. 'They just exploded. The seed was planted in them at their birth and they developed it.'

Nathan Osmond agreed that music is in the Osmond blood.

'It''s something that we really enjoy; we have a love for music, a love for traveling and meeting people,' he said.

Although The Osmond - Second Generation perform most of their concerts outside of the country, they said that sometimes it is nice to be able to play for their hometown.

'Occasionally we like to just kind of do something for the neighbors and the family members and friends around here,' said Nathan Osmond.

The Stadium of Fire is going to be filled with great music and thrilling effects from the Osmond''s and Martina McBride.

'This time, to be able to perform with Martina and be with my brothers again and be able to do the show, it''s a cool opportunity,' said David Osmond. 'I''m excited about it.'

The Stadium of Fire will begin at 8 p.m. at the LaVelle Edwards stadium.
