A two-year search has led to the discovery of the Western Reserve, a ship lost since 1892. The 300-foot steamer was found about 60 miles northwest of Whitefish Point, Michigan, in Lake Superior, using side-scan sonar. The Western Reserve sank in a storm on August 30, 1892. There was only one survivor of the wreck, Wheelsman Harry W. Stewart, 27 other people died in the shipwreck.
