Noah Rowley, a Team USA ice climber from Draper, is sharing what it takes to climb the ice.
“It has a very wild aspect to it, which caught my attention,” Rowley said.
Rowley made the USA ice climbing team in 2023. He received 14th place out of 37 competitors at the World Cup for ice climbing in Champagny-en-Vanoise and hopes to participate in the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy.
Climbers use ice picks, crampons and climbing equipment to summit frozen waterfalls and ice walls.
“Sometimes, I think I’m crazy when I’m climbing some stuff that scares me," Rowley said. "But most of the time, it just feels like second nature. I’ve been doing it for so long."
“I do feel like (they are), maybe, adrenaline-seekers,” said onlooking hiker, Beck Seamons.
