BYU professors and alumni, along with other artists, lend their skills to a special exhibit allowing students to explore little-understood symbols and images found in both Islamic and Christian art.

Fred Howard sat quietly in the back of the old Tabernacle one evening, listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir practice. On that night, he listened intently to the organ towering powerfully behind the choir. What a challenge it would be to paint the rich wood and the brass pipes, he thought to himself. In that moment an idea was born and Howard knew what his next art project would be.

The Springville Museum of Art started its yearly Spring Salon as a way to buy new works of art. Now in its 88th year, the museum received more than 900 pieces for consideration from artists throughout Utah. Dania Maestas' 'The Narcissist' was one of the 251 pieces selected for exhibition, helping her realize a dream she had since high school.
