BYU basketball player Tyler Haws is set to become the Cougars' all-time leading scorer this Thursday against the University of Portland. Haws has already passed prominent BYU guard Marty Haws (his dad), 1989 first–round NBA draft pick Michael Smith and Boston Celtics General Manager Danny Ainge.

When the Cougars played North Texas in 1980 the matchup produced several Marriott Center and BYU records. This year Tyler Haws surpassed a milestone he will never forget in a 97-67 win.

The promised land for BYU basketball recruiting is proving once again to be the soil of Highland — more specifically, the gymnasium of Lone Peak High School. In recent memory, four BYU players have gone through Lone Peak to play at BYU, including three current players. BYU will add at least three more players from Lone Peak's roster over the next few years.

In the fall of 2011, the BYU men's basketball team netted some impressive recruits. Of the seven recruits who committed to the Cougars that fall, five have ties to the program through relatives.
