On being ready
I was 19 years old when I went through my first real heartbreak. The boy I dated was lovely. He was funny, smart, adorable, etc. But a difficult and taxing situation caused some complications for us and we decided to break up because of that situation, and I was devastated.

Viewpoint: 'Hold on to what you believe'
A couple of months ago I ran into a dear friend of mine. After exchanging pleasantries and walking along campus, she turned to me and said, “Does it feel that everyone you know is falling away from the church?” Relieved that someone could understand how I feel, I looked at her and sighed. It seems like more and more of my friends are losing their faith in God and leaving the church.

MLB postseason: The most wonderful time of the year
It was the bottom of the 9th. The bases were loaded. The Rangers were down by four with two outs. My breath caught as David Murphy hit the ball deep into left field. It went up, up, up and then just like that their playoff run was over in just one game. For the third year in a row the Texas Rangers have shined in the regular season and then come up short in the playoffs.
