In 1956, female student Peggy Herron Mortensen was given the chance to play BYU mascot Cosmo the Cougar. Now, almost 70 years later, Cosmo is a staple in BYU athletic events. However, the role of Cosmo has only been played by a few confirmed female students, with Mortensen being the first.

The BYU dunk team has been around for many years, but female students just recently began to join the ranks. This year, the dunk team has two female students who help lead the team in electrifying performances in the Marriott Center and elsewhere.

BYU athletic marketing has been busy preparing for a full day of sporting events on Nov. 17 when three BYU teams will host home games within a matter of hours.
