Irvine incident
I’m trying to help my roommate’s sister understand her options. Earlier this week, she decided to visit a former high school friend at UC Irvine for a few days. She had been planning the trip for several months and was extremely excited about it. Things were going well until last night, when she called my roommate from a hospital.

Saying goodbye to a friend
Recently, my family dog has been really sick. It’s been really rough on everyone. This was the dog that my siblings and I grew up with, and he was a real comfort for everyone when my dad passed away years ago. My dad was always kind of the one in charge of dog-related stuff (my mom never had a dog growing up), but we all got really close to the dog after he passed.

Nursing in New Jersey
I could use a second opinion. I’m a college senior expected to graduate in May with a degree in nursing. I’ve been accepted into graduate school in New Jersey for my Master of Science in Nursing. I plan to become a nurse practitioner immediately after that.

Cracking crypto
Where the heck did Bitcoin come from? I had never heard of it, and then suddenly it was everywhere. I read about it going through the roof and then crashing down again--and then going back up again, of course. It seems really exciting, and I don’t want to miss the boat on some huge investment opportunity, but I am a little concerned that I don’t understand it well enough to invest wisely. Can the experts tell me a little bit about how Bitcoin works, and whether or not it’s a good idea to invest in it right now?

How technology is changing education
When I’m home on break or a long weekend and working on stuff for school, my family seems impressed by how much we do online these days. My parents are a bit older, and while they’re good with computers, they say they didn’t do nearly so much on them in college as we do now. And my grandfather, a retired college professor, is totally blown away.

Internet privacy
I’m not particularly tech-savvy, but I do spend a lot of time on the internet. I think everyone does, these days. But it freaks me out a little bit that I’m always on the internet and always giving out my personal information--my name, my credit card information, etc. I don’t like that when other people use my computer, my browser suggests the sites I visit. And I worry about hackers and viruses and other dangers getting into my computer and into my files. How can I be safer on the internet?

Gaining the edge in investments
When I look at the richest people in the country, I see one thing that they all have in common: they make a lot of money off of their investments. I’m a big believer in hard work, don’t get me wrong, but it seems to me that the best way to get really rich is to invest wisely.

Love bites
I have a girlfriend here at school that I really love. She’s amazing in so many ways. She’s nearly flawless--but she’s not completely flawless.

Tech and tourism
I’m planning a trip with some friends, and I think it’s kind of amazing how much it can be done (or even has to be done) online. I grew up with the internet, of course, but I have to think that this must be weird to people like my parents, who must remember calling to make reservations and stuff. I’m curious about this change and what it has really meant to travel and the tourism industry. What can the experts tell me about the way travel and tech have become intertwined?

Another cost of death - dying is expensive
My grandmother passed away a few days ago. She had been on the fringe with a terminal illness for months. The best we could do was ease her pain and spend as much time with her as possible. That she was able to enjoy the holidays with us by her side was truly a gift and a blessing.

Staying safe on the road
I have a friend who--to put it delicately--is an awful driver. He’s reckless and drives too quickly, he takes turns too sharply, he accelerates as fast as possible when traffic lights turn green, and he just generally makes me worry when I’m in the car with him.

Rising temperatures, raging fires, and fuming tempers
I’m a native Californian whose childhood international travels took me to some of the farthest corners of the world. My dad has been an environmentalist and geological researcher most of his life. That career choice rubbed off on me and now I’m the studying environmental science myself. As a freshman, I don’t have too much academic experience under my belt yet, but I definitely know more than your average young adult, given how much exposure to the sciences I had growing up.

Doctors’ responsibilities--and yours
I’ve been in and out of doctors’ offices a lot lately, thanks to some ongoing health issues that I won’t go into. I’ve been really frustrated with the results I’ve been seeing, and I’ve pointed out to one of my doctors that I really don’t feel he’s been helping. He came back at me with some criticism of my diet and lifestyle, as if me being sick was my fault (I know some diseases can be caused by bad habits, but my condition is not one of them). I’m upset with the relationship I have with my doctor right now, and I’m even thinking about suing. Where is the line when it comes to malpractice? If I am not getting better, isn’t my doctor responsible?

Tips for trips
I’m planning a trip for a group of my friends. We’re all fun people, but we all have a bit of an anxious side. We’re perfectionists--and maybe we’re kind of worrywarts, too.

Progress, profit, and the planet
I’m a pretty conservative person, but I’m also a person who loves nature and the outdoors. That can leave me kind of conflicted sometimes when I think about the future of our planet. What scares me is the idea that companies aren’t designed to care about the planet--they’re designed to make money (and I think they should be). But that means they don’t really have any reason to pay extra to recycle, and things like that. I know the government steps in and tries to make things better by doing things with laws and taxes and stuff, but I’m not sure I agree with that. But I guess it’s the only way--though I’d rather not just be guessing, so that’s why I’m asking the experts. Can profits and the planet coexist?

Cosmetic care
I have a friend here who wants to become a plastic surgeon one day. Not just a doctor--she specifically wants to be a plastic surgeon. I really don’t understand it, because I really don’t like the idea of people changing their appearance with surgery. It seems to me that people are being pressured to have cosmetic surgery by the society we live in, which puts too much value on our appearances.

Beating bullying
My little nephew means the world to me, and he’s at what should be a really exciting and innocent time in his life. He’s just starting kindergarten. Unfortunately, some kids in his class have been really mean to him. I have no idea why, or why his kindergarten teacher can’t see to control a group of kids that is so young, but my brother and his wife say my nephew has no friends and sometimes cries and asks them not to send him to school anymore. He’s all alone (he has no brothers or sisters), and it makes me so sad. I know it’s not my place, but what can I do to help?
