So Egor Demin decided to enter the NBA Draft ... what does BYU do now?

Maybe it was too good to be true.

The possibility of Egor Demin, Richie Saunders and AJ Dybantsa all playing in royal blue next year was always a little bit of a pipe-dream. On Tuesday morning, that dream came to an end, as Demin announced that he would be entering the NBA Draft.

This announcement, which comes six days after veteran guard, Dallin Hall, entered the transfer portal, leaves a big hole at the point guard position for BYU.

So how do the Cougars solve this problem?

"We essentially have an NBA front office," BYU coach Kevin Young, told the media on Tuesday. "We have a lot of connections all over the country, all over the world as well. We have a good handle on who is out there."

As of today, BYU only has one point guard on its 2025-26 roster, but Young is confident that his staff can find someone from either this year's high school class, the transfer portal, or overseas.

Dawson Baker is the default starting point guard for next season, but primarily thrives as a scorer, not a floor general. A senior who transferred from UC Irvine in 2023, Baker averaged 7.5 points per game off the bench. That was good for fifth most on the team.

Four-star freshman Elijah Crawford was a name that could have potentially found meaningful playing time at the point guard position, but entered the transfer portal in the days following BYU's Sweet 16 loss to Alabama.

BYU has yet to sign a guard from the transfer portal, but it's still early. Demin did not commit to the Cougars until late May last year, so there is still time.

While it is still only April and BYU is ranked No. 16 in ESPN's way-too-early top 25 for next season, the depth and lack of a true point guard is glaring.

This will by far be BYU's No. 1 priority now that the college season is officially wrapped.
