No. 17 BYU upsets No. 10 TCU in 4 sets behind another star performance from Suli Davis

In a road matchup on Saturday afternoon, No. 17 BYU overcame early struggles to defeat TCU 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-20, 25-23), fueled by a commanding performance from sophomore outside hitter Suli Davis and a late-set surge that sealed the win.

After dropping the opening set, the Cougars regrouped with poise and precision. Davis led the charge with 20 kills on 52 swings, adding 10 digs and a block to cap off another standout game. Her aggressive play on the pins kept TCU’s defense off balance, especially in the second and third sets where BYU found its rhythm.

Setter Alex Bower was a machine on BYU’s offense, dishing out 46 assists and contributing nine digs and three blocks. Middle blocker Brielle Kemavor added 11 kills of her own as well as 8 blocks, dominating the net and helping BYU out-block the Horned Frogs 10-12.

Sophia Callahan also stepped up with 15 kills on a .365 hitting percentage, including a clutch swing late in the fourth set that gave BYU match point.

TCU came out strong in the first set, capitalizing on BYU’s early errors and riding the arm of Evan Hendrix, who finished with 16 kills. The Horned Frogs kept the pressure on throughout the match, but BYU’s depth and defensive adjustments proved decisive.

In the fourth set, BYU trailed 22-23 before a block from Kemavor and a kill by Callahan flipped the momentum. With the match on the line, libero Lulu Uluave and defensive specialist Emma Barbero anchored the back row, combining for 20 kills and keeping rallies alive during critical stretches.

The Cougars hit .237 as a team and held TCU to .207, showing improved efficiency and resilience after a tough loss earlier in the week. BYU’s ability to respond under pressure, especially in tight moments late in sets, highlighted the team’s growth and competitive edge.

With the win, BYU improves to 18-6 and continues to build its case for postseason play as Davis’ emerges as a consistent offensive leader and the team showcases balanced contributions across the board.

Next up, the Cougars return home to face UCF on Wednesday night at Kansas State Friday night. They're looking to carry forward the momentum and sharpen their game play as the regular season winds down.
