Former BYU women's soccer star Cameron Tucker's journey to playing professionally in Spain

After graduating from BYU and its women’s soccer team, Cameron Tucker played for three teams in three years in the NWSL, but this isn’t where her professional soccer career ends.

Tucker signed a one-year contract with Levante UD Feminino (Valencia, Spain) in early January, and this past Saturday got her first minutes with the club.

Time will tell if Tucker’s contract is renewed with Levante, but with her vast experience, she is nothing short of impressive.

Tucker is the only BYU women’s soccer alum playing for a Spanish football club.

Levante UD has had a rough season with just three wins, four draws and twelve losses.

One of the only bright spots throughout this season for Levante is that the team ended the 46-game unbeaten streak held by Barcelona. This win is one of the best the club has had in the last half-decade.

Tucker scored the sixth-most goals in BYU history with 43, and if that wasn’t enough, she also is eighth on the all-time assist board for the Cougars.

The Cougars had a lot of success with Tucker on the team. Throughout her tenure with BYU from 2017-2021, she helped lead the Cougars to four NCAA tournaments and to the NCAA finals in 2021.

Tucker was also ranked as the eleventh best collegiate women’s soccer player in 2021 by Top Drawer Soccer, one of the biggest college soccer recruiting platforms. She had 16 goals that season and led BYU to the elite eight after a clutch game-saving goal against No. 1 seeded Virginia.

Before signing with Levante UD Feminino, Tucker played for three different NWSL teams. First on a two-year contract with the NWSL’s NJ/NY Gotham FC, then after a year of play she was waived and signed by the Houston Dash.

Shortly after playing a season with the Dash, Tucker was then traded to the Utah Royals, the professional women's team in her home state.

After going through the ups and downs of the sports business for four years, Tucker continues to be a professional football player, no matter where she is playing.
