Just weeks after facing Oklahoma State in one of BYU’s biggest wins of the season, sophomore guard Amari Whiting is set to join the Cowgirls.
The former Cougar announced her commitment to Oklahoma State following her decision to enter the transfer portal in the wake of her mother, Amber Whiting, being relieved of her duties as BYU’s head coach.

The sophomore guard from Boise, Idaho, started all 63 games she appeared in while in Provo, excelling as a defensive-minded guard. Whiting averaged 10.3 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and two steals per game this past season. She also averaged 1.5 steals as a freshman.
Just a month ago, Whiting and the Cougars upset No. 20 Oklahoma State in what was BYU’s best win of the season.
The Cougars were not able to build upon that surprising late-season win as they lost all five of their remaining games, including the Big 12 tournament- opener against UCF.
Whoever BYU decides to hire as their next head coach will have to fill the void at point guard.
Moving Big 12 Freshman of the Year Delaney Gibb to the point guard position is the most likely choice at the moment but the Cougars could also be getting guard Kailey Woolston back as she will soon complete her mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
As for Whiting, she’ll have the chance to make an immediate impact in Stillwater — but this time for a conference rival.
