Each year, the BYU Cougarettes prepare a dazzling show full of dance routines that wow audiences.
This "Cougarettes in Concert" includes five showings of their routines that are performed over four days at the Covey Center for the Arts in Provo Utah.
This year, the shows begin Feb. 5 and close Feb. 8.
“Audiences can expect a well-rounded show with some really incredible choreographers from the team, but also professional choreographers that are actually working in the professional world,” said coach Morgan St. Pierre.
A unique aspect of this year's show is that the performance will include a spiritual piece created by coaches St. Pierre, Stacy Bills and Cougarette president Elena Wright. The routine includes all members of the Cougarettes but features Lyza Bull, who will be singing live.
“We felt like it would be a beautiful way to share a testimony of the Savior,” St. Pierre said.
While the dancers take on the challenge of hours of cardio this concert requires, a team mantra chants in their head to help push them through.
“Our team theme this year is ‘choose your hard,'” said Cougarette vice president Ellsie Tueller.
“Everything in our life comes with two sides of hard. Marriage is hard, but so is being single. Eating healthy is hard but so is running a full show performance when you haven't fueled your body right,” Tueller said.
She added that her team uses this mantra throughout their concert as a way to motivate the Cougarettes to push through the hard, trying and exhausting moments because the reward of sharing their talent as testimonies is worth it.
These dancers have a unique bond with their sport as well as with one another. Their confidence, love and trust in each other are what make their team different from the rest.
That bond is what makes this concert a show you wouldn’t want to miss.
