The Big 12 announced BYU golfer Peter Kim as October’s Big 12 Golfer of the Month on Nov. 7.
Kim’s tremendous season has been rightfully recognized. This is probably the first of many more collegiate awards he will achieve. At the start of October, he was ranked No. 86 in the nation, but now has jumped a remarkable 23 spots to No. 63, the highest on the 36th-ranked Cougars.
Kim and the Cougars competed in The Blessings Collegiate Invitational, Big Conference 12 Match Play Tournament, and Leadership and Golf Collegiate Championship during the month. He finished tied for 12th in The Blessings Collegiate at six-over par, went 3-0-2 in his matches for the match play tournament with a sweet hole in one on hole 18 to tie his Kansas opponent, and took a tie for third in The Leadership and Golf Collegiate at four-under par with the best and most clutch back nine in the final round.
In that back nine, he scored two bogeys in his first three holes before he went off for a birdie, par, birdie, birdie, par, eagle sequence to cap off his red hot finish to the season.
Kim ended the year with an adjusted scoring average of 69.2 strokes per round which is almost a three-under par average in 14 rounds of play. At this point last season, he had a 72.4 adjusted scoring average.
He will look to continue his success Feb. 3-4 at the Arizona Intercollegiate.
