BYU's Gibb claims second Big 12 freshman of the week award of the season

BYU freshman guard Delaney Gibb has been named the Big 12 freshman of the week for the second time this season.

Gibb's career-high of 26 points led the team to its ninth win of the season in a 74-57 victory over Washington State Friday.

The Raymond, Alberta, Canada, native shot 11 of 16 from the field and 3 of 5 from beyond the arc, with 68% shooting. Gibb scored 21 of 26 points in the second half, leading the Cougars to their third road win of the season.

In two games against Utah Valley and Washington State, Gibb averaged 20 points on 65% shooting, going 66% from 3-point range and 50% from the free-throw line. Gibb also averaged 3.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 0.5 steals.

The 5-foot-10 guard has started and played in all 11 games for the Cougars. Gibb has averaged 16.8 points on 56% shooting while recording 4.8 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.4 steals in 358 minutes of play this season.

Gibb’s first Big 12 honor came after the first week of the season when she led all freshmen in scoring, assists, three-point field goals and blocks.

Gibb will be back in action on Saturday, as the Cougars host the Arizona Wildcats at the Marriott Center to kick off Big 12 play.

Saturday’s game will be streamed on ESPN+, with tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m., with live play-by-play from Jason Shepherd on BYU Radio.
