BYU’s Delaney Gibb named to Naismith Women’s Player of the Year Watch List

BYU guard Delaney Gibb has been named to the Naismith Women’s Player of the Year Watch List.

The Naismith Women’s Player of the Year trophy is a prestigious honor awarded to the top women’s college basketball player in the nation.

Finalists are selected by a voting academy of leading coaches, journalists and analysts, who evaluate players based on their overall performance throughout the season. The initial watch list includes 50 players, which is narrowed to four finalists before the academy votes on the winner.

Gibb is one of seven Big 12 players named to the watch list. Other conference selections include Iowa State’s Addy Brown and Audi Crooks, Baylor’s Darianna Littlepage-Bugg, Oklahoma State’s Stailee Heard, TCU’s Olivia Miles and Kansas’ S’Mya Nichols.

Gibb led the Cougars in scoring last season, averaging 17.9 points per game and recording 124 assists. She scored more than 20 points in 10 of 20 games, including a standout 36-point performance against conference rival Utah.

The rising sophomore was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week 10 times during the 2024–25 season — the second-most in conference history — and earned Big 12 Freshman of the Year honors.

This summer, Gibb represented Canada on the senior national team, averaging 9.1 points across seven games and helping lead the squad to a 6–1 record and a bronze medal at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup.

She joins BYU men’s basketball freshman AJ Dybantsa, who was named to the NABC Division I Player of the Year Preseason Watch List on Thursday.
