BYU women's volleyball wins 5-set thriller over Utah State

After a three-game losing streak for BYU women’s volleyball, the Cougars were to pull out a win against Utah State Wednesday night at Smith Fieldhouse.

In a five-set thriller, the Cougars beat the Aggies 23-25, 25-23, 25-12, 25-27, 15-11.

Set three of the game was where the Cougars had their turning point. They were up almost the whole set and it was full of aces for the team with Billeter having two. Billeter had a great run that continued to build momentum for the Cougars.

“Hannah in the third set went on that run. It just gave us life and confidence," said BYU coach Heather Olmstead.

Set four was a nail-biter with Utah State coming back to win the set 26-25, which pushed the game to go into the last set. In set four the Aggies, had three aces, helping them win that set.

The last set went to 15 points, with BYU taking the win.

By the end of the match, freshman Alex Bower had 43 total assists. The setter played all game and was consistent with each set averaging about nine assists per set. The team had a total of 56 kills.

With preseason coming to an end, BYU is preparing for Big 12 play officially starting next week. The Cougars have two more in-state matches, at Weber State Friday and at home against Utah Valley University Saturday.
