No. 19 BYU faces three in-state opponents this week, before starting Big 12 play next week. The Cougars will play Utah State, Weber State and crosstown rival, UVU, during this three-game stretch.
BYU takes on Utah State Wednesday in a match that takes place at Smith Fieldhouse at 6 p.m. The last time BYU faced Utah State was last season, when the Cougars swept the Aggies in three sets. BYU currently holds a three-match win streak against Utah State, all of which have been sweeps.
Utah State enters tonight’s match with a record of 2-6, while BYU sits at a 4-3 record overall.
The Cougars will travel to Ogden on Friday night, where they’ll face the Weber State Wildcats at Swenson Gym at 6 p.m. BYU swept Weber State last year when they met Dec. 1 at Smith Fieldhouse.
The 3-6 Wildcats will be motivated in this match as they have never beaten BYU in women’s volleyball. The Cougars currently hold a perfect 58-0 record against the Wildcats.
The final match before conference play begins will be a showdown between BYU’s crosstown rival, the Utah Valley Wolverines. The match will take place on Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. The Cougars swept UVU when they played last year as well.
BYU also owns an undefeated record against the Wolverines, with a record of 18-0. UVU has never won more than one set in any of their matches against BYU.
The Cougars will hope to continue their dominance against these in-state foes as they look to bounce back from a loss against No. 12 Oregon and prepare themselves for Big 12 play.
