After falling short to Cal Poly in five sets in the first round of the NCAA tournament, BYU women’s volleyball 2025 season has come to a close.
The season featured an overall record of 22-9 with a win percentage of .710. The Cougars went 11-8 in conference and had a 13-3 record of playing at home in the Smith Fieldhouse.
The “Smith Fieldhouse effect” carried the Cougars with a tremendous home court advantage through many big matches, especially against Utah on Nov. 26 in a dramatic, five-set showdown.
BYU really turned on the jets for their last two weeks of conference play. Featuring the previously stated win against Utah, a sweep against Kansas, and a 3-1 set victory against Arizona and Colorado.
The match on the road against Colorado really was a full circle win as that was the first conference match of the season where the Cougars fell 3-1 at home. This victory gave them momentum, however coming up just short in the NCAA tournament against Cal Poly.
Despite winning two straight sets and leading 2-1, the Cougars could not gain enough momentum against the Mustangs and concluded their season Thursday in Los Angeles.
Although the season is over, there is much to celebrate and build on going into the offseason.
Star outside hitter Suli Davis broke record after record this season, winning Big 12 Freshman of the Year and being named to the All-Big 12 first team. She was joined by her teammates Alex Bower and Brielle Kemavor in that honor. Claire Little Chambers was named to the All-Big 12 second team.
Davis was ranked 2nd overall in the Big 12 with matches played (32), kills (525), and points (574). She won Big 12 rookie of the week six times through the season as well as breaking the all-time freshman kills record at BYU.
The Cougars will look to bounce back this offseason and continue to build chemistry and strength as they will be back in the Smith Fieldhouse for spring scrimmages starting in late winter.
