The Cougars won their second consecutive national championship in the DMR, setting a national, meet, and facility record with a time of 10 minutes, 45.34 seconds. This marks BYU’s third DMR national title in the last five years (2021, 2024, 2025).
The relay team consisted of: Jenna Hutchins (1200m, 3:21.61), Sami Oblad (400m, 52.10) – fastest split in the field, Tessa Buswell (800m, 2:06.52) and Riley Chamberlain (1600m, 4:25.12).
“We knew what we were capable of and just had to execute,” Chamberlain said. “It’s amazing to win back-to-back titles.”
BYU distance runner Lexy Halladay-Lowry also delivered standout performances. She earned a 5000m second place finish with an amazing time of 15:06.17. She then got a third place finish in the 3000m. These results got her a first team All-American honor.
BYU finished ninth in the team competition with 24 points, cementing its status as a national powerhouse in distance running. Whats next for the Cougars?
They have a big outdoor season ahead of them as they prepare to hit the ground running soon next week at the Cardinal Classic in Stanford, Calif., on Saturday.
