BYU women's soccer takes on Utah State at home for 1st round of NCAA tournament

Following a historic win in the Big 12 championships last week, BYU women’s soccer has made a statement on why it’s one of the most dominant programs in the country.

The Cougars made Big 12 history by becoming the first No. 8 seed to win the conference tournament, quite the achievement that showcases their tenacity and ability to perform under pressure.

Throughout the tournament, BYU went head-to-head with some of the best teams in college soccer and came out on top, demonstrating this program's power that has been defined for years.

With their Big 12 title secured, BYU now will turn its focus to the NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Tournament, where the No. 5 seeded Cougars will host in-state rival Utah State in the first round Friday at 6 p.m. at South Field.

The Cougars and Aggies have faced each other 19 times in school history, with BYU holding a 15-3-1 lead in the all-time series. Their history in postseason play also favors the Cougars. The two teams met in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in both 2012 and 2023, with BYU coming out on top in both matchups.

This marks BYU’s 26th appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

Utah State will be making its fifth NCAA Tournament appearance. The Cougars will enter this matchup with already shutting out Utah State earlier this season, but both teams will be eager to prove themselves in this game to continue on in the tournament.

First-round NCAA games will take place between Nov. 14-16 at 32 different campus sites. Teams that advance will continue their road toward the 2025 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer College Cup, which is set to take place Dec. 5 and Dec. 8 at CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, Mo., the home of the NWSL’s Kansas City Current.
