BYU women's soccer plays Kansas to 2-2 draw

After losing at Arizona last weekend, BYU women's soccer has been hungry for its first win on the road this season.

The Cougars are getting their chance this week with matches against Kansas and Kansas State.

As of Thursday night, BYU was still looking for that first road win after facing Kansas in a match that ended in a 2-2 draw.

Both teams brought the heat in Lawrence, playing a fast-paced, physical game. In the first half alone three goals were scored. The first two were within 15 seconds of one another.

The first goal was from BYU’s Erin Bailey, while the second goal was scored by the Jayhawks' Lexi Watts. Then, a third goal was scored by BYU’s Mackenzee Vance, breaking the tie and giving the Cougars the lead going into the second half.

The game went into halftime with BYU leading 2-1.

The second half started with equally divided possession and aggression. Watts scored again for Kansas at 52 minutes to even the score at 2-2.

Both teams racked up quite a few the fouls during the game, with BYU earning nine fouls while Kansas piling up 17.

It was a frantic final five minutes, with some strong shots taken and quick saves.
The hard-fought game ended in a draw between BYU (5-5-4 overall and 3-2-2 in Big 12 play) and Kansas (5-5-4 and 2-4-1 in Big 12 play).

The Cougars will once again seek their first road win on Monday night at Kansas State. The game will kick off at 6 p.m. MDT and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
