BYU stacks academic, athletic awards following 2025 season

With the 2025 BYU women’s soccer season coming to a close, several Cougars have earned national and regional recognition for their performances on the field and in the classroom.

Five players — Halle Dixon, Avery Frischknecht, Mika Krommenhoek, Emma Neff and Mattyn Summers-Oviatt — were selected to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team.

The honor recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined academic and athletic achievements. To qualify for nomination, players must hold at least a 3.5 GPA and either appear in 90 percent of matches or start in at least 66 percent of them.

Academic All-District selections advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, where they become eligible for first-, second- or third-team recognition. These Academic All-America selections are scheduled to be announced Dec. 17.

Three Cougars were also named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Midwest Region teams. Junior forward Ellie Walbruch and sophomore midfielder Lucy Kesler earned First Team honors, while junior defender Izzi Stratton was selected to the Second Team.

Walbruch and Kesler earned additional national recognition from the United Soccer Coaches organization, which named both players NCAA Division I All-Americans. Walbruch was selected to the second team and Kesler to the third team.

The recognition comes at the end of a season in which BYU once again positioned itself among the country’s top programs. The Cougars finished with a strong record against a competitive Big 12 schedule, notching key wins that kept them consistently ranked in national polls.

Offensively, BYU continued its identity as one of the most productive attacks in the country, ranking among national leaders in goals, shots and scoring opportunities. Defensively, the back line held opponents to limited chances, contributing to multiple shutouts throughout the season.

With several key contributors set to return next season, BYU appears well-positioned to remain competitive in both conference and national play. The mix of All-Region talent, Academic All-District recognition and All-America honors underscores the depth of the roster and the program’s balance of academic excellence and athletic achievement.

As postseason awards continue to be released in the coming weeks, the Cougars are likely to remain in the national conversation — both for what they accomplished in 2025 and for what their returning core could deliver in 2026.
