The BYU men’s volleyball team has 12 matches left before the MPSF tournament in Malibu, California, at Firestone Fieldhouse.

Looking ahead, the Cougars appear to be building momentum for the tournament, though they must take it one game at a time after suffering tough losses early in the season.

BYU fell twice to Hawai’i, 3-2 and 3-1, and also dropped matches to UC Irvine, 3-2 and 3-0.

However, the Cougars have shown they can compete with top teams, securing back-to-back 3-2 wins against Ball State.

BYU faces a challenging schedule ahead, with every remaining opponent ranked in the top 20. No. 7 USC looks to take down the Cougars, while BYU’s biggest test before the postseason will come in the final game against No. 1 UCLA. That matchup will give Cougar fans a preview of what to expect in the MPSF tournament.

Senior outside hitter Luke Benson leads BYU with 3.45 kills per set and a .344 hitting percentage, while junior outside hitter Miks Ramanis adds 2.88 kills per set.

Junior setter Tyler Herget, at 6-foot-2, has been crucial in running the offense, averaging 9.74 assists per set with 21 service aces. Senior setter Noa Haine provides valuable depth and experience, while senior middle blocker Teon Taylor has been a defensive force, averaging 1.23 kills per set with 73 total blocks.
