BYU men’s basketball adds Dominique Diomande from transfer portal

Just two days after being eliminated from the NCAA tournament, BYU men’s basketball has added its first transfer portal player in Dominique Diomande.

Diomande is a 6-foot-8 wing that should help add some depth to Kevin Young’s wing rotation after losing senior players Trevin Knell, Mawot Mag and Trey Stewart.

Diomande joined the Washington Huskies in early January and didn’t play a single game, keeping his year of eligibility. Before playing college, Diomande averaged 15.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.8 steals in 26 games for ADA Blois of the France U21 league.

Before coming to the United States, Diomande was considered a top-50 pick in the 2025 NBA draft by DraftExpress.com.

With Mag leaving BYU, there is a clear need for more defensive oriented players who can guard on the wing. Diomande has the potential to slot in nicely with incoming freshmen AJ Dybantsa and Xavion Staton, both of whom are good defenders.

This addition by Kevin Young and his staff reiterates their commitment to bringing top-level NBA talent to Provo.

Like the signing of Egor Demin last summer, the addition of Diomande shows how Young and his staff are looking outside the United States to add talent.

The signing of Diomande demonstrates how Young wants to play — having athletic wings that can handle the ball and shoot the three.

Young and his coaching staff are putting together an impressive team for the 2025-2026 season, filled with players that will amass a lot of attention on the national stage.

Both Demin and Richie Saunders still haven't made their decisions on whether or not they will stay with BYU or test the NBA waters.
