BYU men's and women's cross country teams sweep NCAA national titles

The BYU men's and women's cross country teams headed to Verona, Wisconsin to run in their final event of the 2024 season.

In the end, the podium gleamed blue as both squads earned national championships.

BYU became on the fifth team in NCAA history to sweep both the men's and women's cross country titles in the same year.

The women's cross country team added to its legacy by earning their sixth all-time national title.

Coach Diljeet Taylor mentioned in interviews how proud she was of her team and expressed gratitude towards God for their success.

For these women, a commitment to the group was their key to success. Each of the athletes was able to let go of individual goals and lean into running for one another.

Together, they scored 147 points, earning themselves a top spot on the scoreboard.

BYU also landed three female athletes into the top 40, earning them All-American honors. Runners Lexy Halladay-Lowry, Riley Chamberlain and Carmen Alder all earned this recognition.

The men's cross country team earned its second all-time national title.

Coach Ed Eyestone said that his team feels grateful to be ranked No.1 in this race. Eyestone talked about how his men were racing with gratitude and a willingness to enjoy the process.

Finishing the 10k finish line at 28:45.1, senior captain Casey Clinger finished sixth overall and first for BYU. Clinger also received his fifth All-American during his final race of his college career.

Men's cross country saw three other Cougars earn All-American status — Creed Thompson, Joey Nokes and Lucas Bons.

Both the men and women's cross country teams made both alumni and fans proud with their efforts this season. With gratitude and selflessness, both teams made history.
