The BYU gymnastics team will meet up against West Virginia in a Big 12 matchup Friday at 7 p.m. at the Marriott Center.
The last meeting between these teams was March 24, 2024, during the Big 12 championships, where the Cougars earned third place and bested WVU 195.125-197.05, putting the Mountaineers in fifth place.
BYU’s last competition was a 196.625-195.825 loss in Denver against the Pioneers. Though they weren’t able to take home the title in Denver, the Cougars were able to earn new achievements.
They earned their highest vault score of the season, 49.100 as well as their overall season-high score of 195.825.
Athletes to know from BYU going into Friday’s match are Brynlee Andersen, who took home the highest beam score of the night against Denver 9.900, and Kylie Eaquinto who earned the top spot on podium with her 9.875 floor routine.
As for West Virginia, the Mountaineers last competed against Big 12 opponent Iowa State on Feb. 9. The Cyclones bested WVU 195.375-194.175.
In this week’s Road to Nationals rankings, the Mountaineers rank No. 52 overall.
West Virginia’s athletes to know are Brooke Alban, who is the most experienced gymnast on the roster, having competed in 43 meets and amassing 863.675 points and Anna Leigh, though she has been battling injury.
Leigh is a consistent member of WVU's bars and beam lineups and will look to make her return to the floor squad this season.
