Future BYU women's track athlete wins Gatorade national award

Coming off a national championship season, BYU women’s cross country has landed a major recruit and trailblazer in Jane Hedengren.

Recently, Hedengren was surprised at her high school by Olympian Courtney Wayment presenting her with the 2025 Gatorade cross country player of the year.

Hedengren is a cross country runner from Provo. She who has dominated locally for Timpview, winning the 5A state title, Deseret News female athlete of 2023-2024 and 2023-2024 Gatorade State of Utah female runner of the year.

However, Hedengren's performance only continued to progress from there, winning another state title for the 2024-2025 season, followed by an impressive 15:50.1 at the Nike Cross Southwest Regional on Nov. 23.

She wrapped up her senior season with the Nike Cross National title running a historic 16:32.7, a new course record, earning Hedengren the honor as the Gatorade female cross country runner of the year.

“I’m honored to receive this award and hope to continue to develop and have a great career ahead," Hedengren said. "I hope it will be full of learning, building relationships, helping and inspiring others, and growing in my faith."

The national standout signed with BYU women's track and field and cross country on November 26, 2024, joining her brother sophomore cross country runner, Isaac Hedengren

“I committed to BYU because I love the area for training, my teammates and their striving for excellence and the opportunity to learn in a spiritually encouraged environment," Hedengren said.
