BYU's Delaney Gibb was unanimously named the Big 12 women's basketball Freshman of the Year after a stellar campaign.
With the award, Gibb becomes the sixth Cougar to earn conference Freshman or Newcomer of the Year honors. Gibb was also named to the All-Big 12 Second Team, becoming the only freshman to ever accomplish that.
This season, Gibb averaged 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists and 1.6 steals on 46% from the field and 40.1% from three.

Gibb has already become one of the best players to wear a Cougar uniform as she sits in the top five in 15 statistical categories in the BYU freshman record book. She is the all-time leader in points per game (17.5) and second in total points (507), 3-point field goals per game (2.58) and assists per game (4.2).
"Delaney has had an all-time season," said coach Amber Whiting. "From the very first game, she has shown why she is one of the best freshmen in the country and a massive addition to our BYU women's basketball family. She is the type of player who brings it night in and night out both in the way she approaches the game and strives to make those around her better."

The guard from Raymond, Alberta, Canada, also claimed 10 weekly Big 12 freshman awards en route to her unanimous selection.
Gibb is just the second player in Big 12 history to earn 10 or more weekly freshman awards, joining Kansas State's Ayoka Lee as the only players to do so. Lee received the honor 12 times in 2019-20.
Just this week, Gibb captured her 10th Big 12 Freshman of the Week award for her all-around dominant performance on the court this past week.
She averaged 22 points 9.0 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 1.0 steals per game. Gibb also shot 51.6% from the field, 46.7% from three and 83.3% from the free throw line.
It was below average shooting performance for Gibb against Kansas but she still found ways to impact the game as she led the team in rebounds and assists by grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out six assists.
Gibb put up incredible numbers against Utah on Saturday. Recording a near triple-double with a career-high 36 points, 10 rebounds, and 7 assists. It was her second career double-double.

Despite the loss to Utah, Gibb played 44 minutes and scored nine of the teamβs 11 points in OT.

It has been a dominant season for the BYU standout, as Gibb has led this young Cougar squad with many promising freshman players. Kambree Barber earned Big 12 Freshman of the Week honors on Feb. 3, after recording her first career double-double against ASU. BYU players have now accounted for 10 of the last 11 Big 12 Freshman of the Week awards between Gibb and Barber.
BYU will hope that they can continue to build up the program and build around the emerging superstar that Gibb is.
The team now turns its focus to the Big 12 Tournament where the Cougars will take on the UCF Knights on Wednesday at 10 a.m. MST.
