The BYU men's basketball team finally knows which Big 12 opponents it will play at home, on the road, and twice in 2025-26.
The Cougars are set to play home and away against preseason Big 12 title contenders, a road game against a budding basketball rival, and will host a team that was one shot away from winning the 2025 national championship.
Who will BYU play twice?
Under the new Big 12 scheduling format, each team will play three other teams two times throughout the season, playing once at home and once on the road.
Next season, BYU will play Utah, Arizona, and Texas Tech two times.
Last season, BYU split its two rivalry games against the Utes, winning at home and losing on the road. Now, under new head coach Alex Jensen, who played college ball at Utah and was an assistant coach in the NBA for over 10 years, this Utah team will look a lot different.
BYU also split the season series with Arizona last season, but most notably won on the road against the Wildcats 96-95. This game sparked some tension from Arizona fans, as explicit chants and even trash were thrown onto the court, directed at Cougar players and staff.
The last team that BYU will play two times next season, Texas Tech, got the better of BYU early on in conference play. The Red Raiders reached the Elite Eight in 2025, before losing to eventual champions Florida by only five points.

Houston was the proverbial white whale for BYU last season. In the two teams' regular season matchup in January, Houston ran through BYU 88-55. The Cougars from Texas then comfortably beat BYU by 20 points in the Big 12 semifinal on their way to win the Big 12 championship, and eventually reach the national championship game.
Besides LJ Cryer, Houston's leading scorer, the Cougars return much of their already loaded roster. They will also add the second best recruiting class in the nation, adding three five-star recruits.
BYU was able to beat Iowa State two times in 2025, once in the regular season and once in the Big 12 quarterfinal. The regular season matchup in Ames, Iowa, went into double overtime before the Cougars came away victorious 88-85. The quarterfinal only built off of the all-timer regular season game, as the Cougars beat the Cyclones in a high-scoring battle 96-92.

The return of Rob Wright lll to Waco, Texas, will be a game to circle on your calendars. It was reported that Wright turned down a lucrative NIL deal from Baylor to join Kevin Young and his team at BYU, so the fans in green and gold won't be happy to see BYU's new starting point guard.
The Cougars will also travel to historic Allen Fieldhouse in Lawrence, Kansas, where it will take on a Kansas team that has yet to beat the Cougars in Big 12 play. BYU beat Kansas on the road in 2024, and handed the Jayhawks their worse loss in the Bill Self era in 2025, winning by 34 points.
