Alex Bower named Big 12 rookie of the week

BYU women's volleyball true freshman setter Alex Bower was named the Big 12 Rookie of the Week Tuesday.

It marked Bower's first Big 12 award of her career.

The 5-foot-11 native of Nampa, Idaho, put up an impressive 34 assists and five digs in the most recent game against Texas Tech on Sept. 28. Bower helped the No. 20 Cougars sweep the Raiders 3-0. Bower has a total of 471 assists on the season.

For the week, she collected 74 total assists, 18 digs, six total blocks, four kills and four service aces.

Bower announced her commitment to BYU back in 2022 on her Instagram account. Her commitment to the team was no surprise. Bower’s sister, Eden Bower is currently on the team as well.

Bower also has had multiple other family members play college sports for BYU, including her mother, Caroline, and two other sisters, Morgan and Whitney, who played on the women’s volleyball team. Her dad, Danny, played for the BYU men's basketball team.

BYU takes its first Big 12 road trip this season with games at Arizona on Wednesday and No. 15 Arizona State on Friday.
