3-Star linebacker Adam Bywater commits to BYU over Utah and Boise State

Adam Bywater, younger brother of former BYU standout Ben Bywater, announced his commitment to the Cougars on Monday night.

Like his brother, Adam plays linebacker and comes to Provo from Olympus High School, located about 50 minutes north of campus.

He is listed at 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds and is ranked the No. 20 overall prospect in the state, according to 247Sports.

Bywater is the sixth player to commit to the BYU football program in the last two weeks. He is the 22nd overall pledge in the Cougars’ 2026 recruiting class.

“Bywater is one of the most versatile linebackers in the region,” said Greg Biggins, national recruiting analyst for 247Sports. “He’s a very good open-field tackler as well and has the toughness and physicality you have to have to excel playing in the front seven in college.”

BYU currently holds the top-ranked 2026 recruiting class in the Big 12 Conference, which it joined two years ago.

The class is also ranked No. 21 nationally by 247Sports.

Over the past month, there has been a surge of recruits committing to the program.

It started in late June when the Cougars hosted 16 official visitors on campus — 10 of whom were not yet committed to BYU, including five-star quarterback Ryder Lyons.

Three weeks later, BYU has landed nine of those 10 recruits. The lone exception, defensive lineman Prince Williams, committed to Arizona.
