
Suspicious
Several young men dressed in black were reported near the Wasatch Elementary School at East Campus. They were allegedly vaping. Police checked the building but found no one. Building staff also said they hadn’t seen anyone. This report was filed anonymously.
Several males were reportedly behaving strangely and hiding in the bushes near the Tanner Building. Police investigated and found that the men were using the area to smoke cigarettes. The case was closed.
Welfare check
An officer saw a male sleeping on an air vent at Heritage Halls 16. This turned out to be an FSY employee who arrived early and had no sleeping accommodations. To keep the individual safe, the officer let him stay in the common area of the JKB.
Accident - rollover
A pickup truck traveling on Cougar Boulevard overturned close to the Tanner Building and landed upside down. Some damage was done to BYU grounds, but none of the passengers were injured.
Citizen contact
A complainant reported their truck was vandalized with a paint-like product in Lot 41. The owner removed the substance and asked police to review security footage. Upon review, they found that the area was not in the camera’s view.
An older woman who seemed disoriented was walking on South Campus Drive while pulling a suitcase. Police made contact, discovered she was visiting and was unfamiliar with campus, and helped her locate her vehicle.
Trespassing
A group of youth was seen playing soccer in the Indoor Practice Facility. When questioned by officers, the youth said the doors had been open and they’d assumed it was a public space. After being informed that all facilities are private, they left without issue.
Property damage
A complainant from GSL Electric called saying the windshield of one of their vehicles had been broken. Security footage showed that refrigeration employees working on a roof had accidentally dropped something onto the van, and the two groups were in contact to arrange a repair.
Fire
Officers responded to the report of a car on fire at Wymount 17. After speaking to the owner, they learned that it was not on fire. The vehicle simply leaks oil and smokes.
An employee at the Richards Building mistakenly mixed chlorine and muriatic acid believing they were the same substance. This releases dangerous chlorine gas, and Provo Fire arrived to secure the scene. No further issues resulted.
Stolen property
A scooter was reported stolen near the Smith Fieldhouse. The individual left it unlocked and later called to report it found not far from the location.
A scooter was reported stolen at Wymount Terrace. The victim said two scooters had been stolen in a matter of weeks. They then provided police with the serial number of one and said there was an AirTag on the other.
A delayed bicycle theft was reported at Wymount Terrace. The bike was described, but there were no other details to provide.
Medical
Provo EMS treated an individual who sustained a shoulder injury at the Richards Building intramural field.
An individual dislocated their shoulder at the Smith Fieldhouse and was taken to the hospital by Provo EMS.
An individual was reported sick at the HBLL. Provo EMS arrived to assist her and determined she was in good condition.
A male was preparing to lift weights in the Smith Field House and dislocated his shoulder while stretching. Provo EMS arrived to treat him, and he was later taken to the hospital by a friend.
Lost property
A BYU employee called the police saying they’d lost a set of BYU keys. A case number was provided so the individual could work with the BYU Key Shop.
Found property
A wallet was found during cleaning of the baseball stadium. The owner has since been contacted.
Unsecured gate
An officer found the south gate to Miller Field unlocked while on patrol. It was promptly secured.
