Utah non-profit weaves hope through thoughtful care kits

A non-profit organization in Utah is doing more than just knitting yarn — it’s weaving hope, care and love into the lives of those who need it most.

Hearts Knit Together, a volunteer-driven initiative, has grown from a small group of women in their 80s making hats to a statewide operation that donates over 7,000 care kits annually. These kits are distributed to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and refugees throughout Utah.

This weekend, Hearts Knit Together celebrated the grand opening of its new location in Lindon. The organization’s mission is to provide thoughtful care kits filled with essential items to individuals in crisis. Executive Director April James explained that the kits are designed to make recipients feel special.

“We color-coordinate everything. It’s like getting the best gift from your best friend,” James said.

The impact of Hearts Knit Together extends beyond the recipients. Volunteer Judy Alba shared how the organization also enriches the lives of those who give back.

“I feel like we’re not just filling the lives of those we are giving the kits to, but we’re also filling the lives of those who really want to give to the community,” Alba said.

The organization’s new warehouse, open Tuesday through Thursday, is available for group service projects, offering additional hours for volunteers eager to make a difference in the lives of thousands.
