Over Saint Patrick’s Day weekend, University Mall hosted its first health fair, featuring a 5K, a lucky charms eating contest and informational booths on various health issues.
Orem Community Hospital Representative Haley Miller said health organizations were there to encourage people to schedule regular health check ups to prevent future illness or injuries.
“My mom, my aunt, my grandma have all had breast cancer and so getting the word out it really saves lives," Miller said.
Health fair participants George and Annette Durfee brought their children and grandchildren to the event to participate in the 5K and other health screenings offered.
“There’s a really fun one with a rug that shows children how far behind a car they need to be in order to be able to be seen and that was really informational,” Annette Durfee said.
The Durfees hope to see health fairs continue for other holidays throughout the year. They look forward to staying involved.
“We hope they keep it going," George Durfee said.
