Latter-day Saints gathered in the Conference Center for the Saturday evening session of the 195th Semiannual General Conference, where speakers shared messages of renewal, belonging and the Savior’s love.
Speakers focused on hope, repentance and the Savior’s power to help each person begin again. Elder Patrick Kearon of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said new beginnings are central to God’s plan.
“New beginnings are at the heart of the Father’s plan! Fresh starts are the mission of the Son,” Kearon said.
That message of forgiveness and renewal resonated with many who attended the session.
“They spoke a lot about forgiveness and the process of repenting through the Atonement, and I really, really liked that tonight,” said Angel Aluesi, a conference attendee.
Others said the talks reminded them there is always hope in Christ.
“With the new life, it means that no matter how many mistakes, or what trials and tribulations you go through, Christ will always be there to show you that you can always repent and start over. There’s always hope in the end,” said conference attendee Ruben Martinez.
Church leaders also spoke about lifting one another and creating a greater sense of belonging.
“Let’s be like those spectators in the story and cheer each other on in our journey of discipleship, no matter our circumstances,” said Sister J. Anette Dennis, first counselor in the General Relief Society presidency.
Members traveled from across the world, including Idaho, Georgia and the Philippines, to attend conference. For some, it was their first time experiencing general conference in person.
“I liked the talk about not judging others and continuing on with the race. I really liked that,” said Juvy Underwood, who attended with her husband, Daniel.
“It’s helped strengthen my relationship, as all conferences have, and it’s been really great to be here,” Daniel added.
Each talk ultimately pointed back to the Savior’s invitation to come unto Him.
“Healing and forgiveness are each found in their fullness in the atoning love of Jesus Christ,” said Elder Neil L. Andersen of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
The Saturday evening session reminded members to look to Christ for peace, healing and new beginnings.
