On International Women’s Day, Provo Mayor Michelle Kaufusi hosted a luncheon to celebrate women’s fearlessness. This marked Provo city’s 10th annual Women’s Day luncheon.
“For us it’s a decade of taking a full day to honor the amazing accomplishments of women in our community,” Nicole Martin, Provo City's communications director, stated.
Taylor Swift's album "Fearless" inspired the theme of the luncheon. The speakers included philanthropist and founder of Gathering for Impact Kristin Andrus, Preloved founder Satu Kujanpää and Olympian Courtney Wayment. All shared what fearlessness meant to them.
“It’s just really a passion project for me,” Mayor Kaufusi stated. “To be elected as the first woman mayor I felt a huge responsibility to lift other women.”
Mayor Kaufusi wrapped up the luncheon by presenting the Trailblazer Award to Kaye Nelson. This award was started in 2020 to mark 100 years since the 19th amendment gave women the right to vote. It's given to women who embody the spirit of the suffragettes.
This luncheon was not the only way women were celebrated. All week there have been events, ending on Saturday night with an afterparty themed around Taylor Swift's Eras Tour.
