Beginning Oct. 7, American Airlines will offer flights from the Provo Municipal Airport to two major city airports that connect internationally.
Passengers will be able to fly nonstop from Provo to Phoenix and Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport which will allow passengers to connect to any other city within the American Airlines network, domestic or international.
There will be two daily flights to Dallas-Fort Worth and one daily flight to Phoenix, Provo City Mayor Michelle Kaufusi said in a statement. Beginning Nov. 5, there will be three daily flights to Texas, according to a news release.
Passengers flying American Airlines out of Provo will fly on an American Eagle plane operated by SkyWest Airlines to Phoenix or Dallas-Fort Worth. These Bombardier CRJ-700 planes hold around 65 passengers.

American Airlines’ decision to initiate these flights is a clear indication of their confidence in our city’s potential and infrastructure.”

During his time as mayor of Provo, U.S. Rep. John Curtis oversaw the completion of Lakeview Parkway — allowing direct public access from Provo to the airport — and the first commercial flight from the airport in 2011, according to a statement.
“In Congress, I've kept that momentum going by securing funds for the airport's expansion, enabling Utahns to travel across the country,” Curtis said. “I'm thankful for American Airlines' recognition of our infrastructure achievements with its new service and my gratitude extends to everyone involved in this success.”
American Airlines Executive Vice President Nate Gatten said the airline is honored to provide flights from Provo in the statement.
“With local connectivity to major metropolitan areas, residents will be able to unlock our vast domestic and global networks to discover new destinations and enjoy all that the American network has to offer,” Gatten said.
This expansion may be part of the airline’s plan to expand to smaller, underserved cities.
“A lot of the growth that we’ll bring back is going to be more or less utilization flying, which is really efficient, and it’s going to go to places that have actually been underserved,” American Airlines CEO Robert Isom said during the 2023 Skift Aviation Forum. “It’s going to be a lot of small cities throughout the United States.”
During the official announcement on April 11, Kaufusi said construction is underway to add more gates to the airport — potentially expanding from four gates to 10.
American Airlines flights from Provo are currently available to book on the American Airlines website.
The Provo airport will continue to house Allegiant Air and Breeze Airways which currently only fly to destinations within the U.S.
Both airlines already offer flights from Provo to Phoenix, and Breeze Airways offers service from Provo to Dallas-Fort Worth. There are currently 11 destinations from Provo through Breeze Airways and 14 destinations from Provo through Allegiant Air, according to their websites.
Kaufusi said the airport served more than 400,000 passengers in 2023 during the live announcement.
