Magic Farm premieres at Sundance

Director Amalia Ulman premiered her second Sundance film, "Magic Farm," at the 2025 festival.

The film follows the story of an incompetent, Vice-style documentary film crew who travels to the wrong country to interview a local musician. As they try to fabricate a new story on-the-fly, an environmental disaster unfolds.

“It’s just, like, a daring movie,” Joe Apollonio, the actor playing Justin in the film, said. “I don’t think that this movie is derivative of anything, really.”

Ulman's relative was blinded by glyphosate usage on crops in Argentina. The issue of agrochemicals being sprayed onto food supply is a major theme in the film.

“A thousand percent we should know what we’re eating,” Simon Rex, another cast member of the film, said. “We’re so deep in it now, we’re not even aware of it. So, that’s why this kind of stuff’s good — to be aware, you know?”

The cast list also includes names such as Chloë Sevigny and Alex Wolff, providing another layer of enticement for viewers.
