Provo bakery Baking Me Crazy hosted a Valentine’s baking class to give tips on icing the perfect cake.
Kriss Richardson, the instructor at Baking Me Crazy, said she loves giving others the skills they need to perfect their own baking.
“They taught a lot of techniques, like with the piping and what not. I didn’t know how to do any of that before, and so I thought that was pretty cool,” Ryan Ellsworth, a student in the baking class, said.
The participants found it helpful for an instructor to guide them through the cake-making process step by step, they said.
“I like being able to watch and see how to do things the right way first and then try it myself,” Cassidy Ellsworth, another student in the class, said. “It’s easier to learn from a person than reading online or a recipe.”
Richardson agreed that demonstration is an effective way to teach the culinary arts.
“Nothing beats hands-on experience with a teacher, so there (are) great classes here at Baking Me Crazy all the time,” Richardson said.
Richardson was pleased with with the results of her students' decorating, despite their beginner status.
“It just looked really pretty and fancy honestly. And everybody was surprised at how easy it was,” Richardson said.
