Investigators are working to determine the cause of a massive fire that destroyed three apartment buildings under construction early Saturday morning in south Provo.
The flames also damaged nearby power lines, leaving multiple homes in the area without electricity for several hours.
The Provo Fire Department received a call just before 3 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 8. Fire crews arrived within minutes to find one building completely on fire.
The fire spread quickly and reached two other buildings. Firefighters stopped the flames just short of a fourth building, Jeanie Atherton, Provo's fire captain, said.
Fire crews kept the flames from spreading beyond the construction site.
The fire hit close to home for Walter Adams, a local resident who lives just one block away from the construction lot.
"If there's a fire you've got to get out quick," Adams said. "The wind shifted, and that's the only reason why, you know, we're standing here in this building right now."
Provo power crews restored electricity to most nearby homes by 8 a.m., with the remaining homes getting power at 10 a.m.
While authorities are still investigating the cause of the fire, the Provo police department has asked that any information or footage of the fire be submitted through their Facebook page.
