The 2024 U.S. presidential election has attracted the attention of more than just U.S. citizens, with international media flocking from around the world to cover the results for their home countries.
From India to Brazil and everywhere in between, the eyes of the world turned to the U.S. as the people elected a new president.
“The U.S. is already the center of the world in many ways for decades now. All of us in the world look on the U.S. - your enemies and your allies,” Ben Yaniv, of Channel 14 news in Israel, said.
Yaniv says American citizens should understand the international influence of their political decisions.
“When an American man or woman goes to the ballot box, they should know that it’s not only their own local interests but that it affects all over the world and they have a lot of power,” Yaniv said.
Students from the University del Desarrollo came all the way from their home country of Chile to report on the election. They joined BYU communications students for a discussion about principles of journalism and the global impact of American politics.
“Every decision that is made here, economic or political, may affect our lives,” University del Desarrollo professor, Myriam Ruiz, said.
With a new president comes the promises of fresh policies and shifts in international relationships. The world is watching closely, eager to see how the Trump administration’s policies will shape the United States and the globe.
