Food pantry provides for local community

Tabitha's Way, a Pleasant Grove food pantry, is providing food and other necessities to locals in need.

With ever-increasing grocery prices, people are finding it difficult to afford basic needs, food pantry volunteers said.

"Basically, what we do here is we serve people — help people out that are going through tough times — with food assistance, temporary food assistance," Kara Smith, community relations manager for Tabitha's Way, said.

Tabitha's Way provides individuals and families with provisions one to two times per month, depending on their needs.

"People are amazed that you can get a whole grocery cart so full that, sometimes, they have trouble getting it out without things falling off," Kevin Crandall, a senior missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, said.

Volunteers from across Utah County come to the warehouse to help sort, repackage and distribute various food items.

"You learn a lot about gratitude," Crandall said. "You meet people you wouldn't meet any other way, and you learn to appreciate them. You learn a lot about the gratitude because of what they experience here."

The pantry is always in need of more volunteers and donations, employees said.

"You should come down here and spend some time. Grab a couple friends. Sign up online. Come have the experience," Crandall said.
